In response to the post, below:
"But could someone please =
answer these questions: Is soy bad for babies but great for women? Dr. =
Weil treats soy like it's a culinary miracle for women. What about =
men? I have also heard that thyroid sufferers should stay away from =
soy. Has anyone else heard this?"

In my personal opinion, a lot of the idea that soy is great for women is
advertising and media hype. Just like the community belief, after
advertising campaigns that yoghurt is a a great asset to health (not for
people like me who are dairy allergic, and react to yoghurt of bovine
origin!). Or the old advertising for whey products (remember them?) where
the community was pursuaded that taking whey supplements would cause all
sorts of health benefits! For women allergic to soy proteins, there can
only be negative benefit. Unfortunately, in this part of the world,
gluten-free cakes have the gluten replaced with soy flour - a no-no for
those of us with soy allergy. (Makes me feel queasy - which is why I
eventually asked "what's in this?")
The matter of soy and caution as regards thyroid came up in a New
Zealand paper not so long ago and was cited elsewhere. I'll see if I can
find the references.
