Winnie,

This is the point I make with moms I see at work. They come in to buy the
lanolin and nipple shields (most other employees now know when they see
someone buying this items to send them my way before they leave). I go over
that they need someone to help them with positioning and find out why they
are sore, these things (lanolin & soothies) help to heal while the latch
gets inproved. But yesterday I knew there was big trouble when the mom
asked where the stuff to numb the nipples was (yikes!). After going over
that they don't make that because breastfeeding isn't supposed to hurt I
gave her a couple of numbers to call (mine included) to have someone come
over work on latch.

While I sometimes really hate working retail, other times I feel like how
else would these mothers know there is a way to not have pain. Their
friends tell them it's supposed to hurt, use these products to make it go
away, if it doesn't well, formula is just as good (while I direct other
customers to the "breast milk" formula, explaining that it isn't breast milk
it's 2 fatty acids taken from soil fungi and microalgae and hopefully their
baby won't get diarhea from it).
