I have a lot of concerns about the wide spread use of lactose free abm in
newborns and even first year babies. According to everything I have read in
BF literature, lactose intolerance occurs gradually over a period of many
years, most symptoms don't appear before age two or three. Isn't this
another brain washing marketing on the part of the abm companies that docs
and parents buy into? I don't see any real evaluation going on when
determining which formula a baby gets if it's bottle fed. If one abm doesn't
agree with baby or a baby cries a lot (more to the point if the parents whine
a lot), the abm is switched till baby becomes more settled or parents become
more settled. It's a real concern to me for those babies not BF having so
many different abm's in their diet at such a young age. Correct me if I'm
wrong, but I don't believe young infants need lactose free diets and I'm
appaulded that docs recommend lactose free abm so quickly.

So, Heidi, my question would be is the baby you are adopting REALLY in need
of a lactose free diet? How was this determined?????????

Warmly,
