Re:to our epi discussion, perhaps the word *informed consent* is what we are
seeking.  It is within the patients bill of rights to know the risks and
benefits of any medical intervention so they can make an informed choice.
 What drives me nuts is when the choice is made for the laboring mom without
any discussion of the possible consequences/side effects with respect to
bf,headache, paralysis, etc.  Epi's do have their place in some labors with
those who need/opt for medication, but a number of mothers have admitted they
had NO idea of the consequences prior.
How can we insure informed consent in this era of managed care?
