Mellanie,
You ask, "For those of you that have so much more experience in counseling
moms than I
do, how do you draw the line between giving mom information and letting her
make her own decisions and the urge to advise her to do what "I" would do."

This is a difficult situation for any counselor. In your case, the line is
already drawn. You gave her the info she needed to make a decision. She made
the decision about going thru with the detox and feeding ebm (maybe not the
one you or I would make, but that's not the point). It's a done deal.

She may call you in the future becoz of some supply problem or baby not
returning to breast. This will be a difficult counseling situation for you
as well (becoz you will be thinking "I told you so" or "I warned you"). If
she does come back to you for further advice, it means you did a good job
the first time and she trusts you.
