Thank-you to all who have responded. In regards to the Mom's concern's, she is a nurse herself and has been very diligent and attentive to detail from the beginning. She called me a couple of weeks ago with this very concern and was wanting to wean. Of course I encouraged her to continue breastfeeding and weigh the benefit of breast vs the risk formula. This Mom did need to vent indeed and does now know who the milk came from. The 'unintentional donor' has agreed to testing and was going out last eve to have her blood drawn. They are including the EIA, HepB, and CMV testing. I encouraged my pt to use this opportunity to educate the (State Board Certified) agency. I knew she would be searching the CDC web site and informed her of OSHA's standard which does not require the use of gloves when handling breastmilk.
You all have given some excellent resources, and advice which I will share with this mom as well as those whom I am educating. I can't thank you enough.
