Judy Holtzer Knopf mentioned the UK usage of the term 'weaning'. The
correct term I belive for cessation of bf is 'sevrage' but I have never
heard anyone use it. Nowadays we tend to use 'weaning' to mean
introduction of solids as well as ceasing bf, but I don't know which
term would have been used 70 years ago.

I too remember the study, which resulted when old records were found. It
certainly was flawed because it was not corrected for factors such as
poverty, and typically the poorest would have bf the longest and would
have had a much more unhealthy diet generally. I don't know if they
looked for more positive long term effects of bf.
