I have received a question from a mother who has had just one breast go “soft and floppy” over a short period of time (about a week). She is nursing a 10 month old. She says she still hears the baby swallowing on that side, but that she can no longer pump as much as she was getting on that side. Her other breast is firmer and producing milk like it always has been. I have heard of moms losing the fat in their breasts over the course of lactation, but never heard of it being unilateral. I have also heard of one breast being softer and smaller due to the baby preferring one side. This has not been the case until this week. Wise women, do you have any experience with this or suggestions for the mom?
