At a Prvt.Prac.workshop I attended at one ILCA conference, I heard a
suggestion for pricing LC services according to your geographic area. It
was to find out what the prevailing fee is for a well-baby pediatric visit
(10-15 min with the physician?) and adopt that for your per-consult or
per-hour consult fee. Sounds reasonable to me. That way, an LC in
downtown New York City or downtown Honolulu would likely charge much more
than an LC in Bumble Bee, AZ. (Yes, it's real - a small blip on a dirt
road.)
You can also purchase professional liability insurance thru St.Paul Fire &
Marine. Contact any or several independent insurance agents for
information. I had to write a detailed description of exactly what I do
during a consult and quote the competition's rates and coverage. They gave
me a competitive quote and I bought the coverage. But rates change so it
pays to keep shopping around.
