I have just read with much interest the study on swaddling of infants. Having worked for 42 years in a hospital, I understand about wrapping the babies up. My problem is that since comming to the south, I find that when the babies are wrapped with the arms down to their side they cannot show hunger signs such as hand to mouth movements and since this wrapping would drive me up a wall I am wondering if it really bothers the babies. I find the picture on page 3 of the study really odd especially with the pacifier, which is the "quieting effect?" Anyone else concerned with this burrito effect? Why not wrap them with the blanket under their arms, even in utero they can move their arms and legs. Food for thought.
