Dear Myra,
I researched this morning about lactation and no thyroid. Their is an
article that was published back in 1955 from the journal Endocrinology. I
have asked our library to obtain the article. I have not worked with
mothers with no thyroid, but I have been able to work with clients and my
own daughter who's thyroid was ablated with radioactive iodine. She is
also a Type 1 Diabetic Class D. She was able to make a full milk supply
with no problem.. Although her Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist did
obtain a thyroid study at 6 weeks post partum which was within normal
limits.
Question I have for you is, did your patient have any breast changes with
the onset of menarche or with the onset of lactation?

Regards,
