Hi all,

I have a mother with a 14 wk old with prune belly syndrome and a few other
problems ,including an intrarenal fungal mass, who is concerned about the
color of her milk.  With her older child, whom she nursed for 2 yrs, it was
the typical bluish-white color with a thick amount of cream.  With this child
she says that even when it has been in the refrigerator it doesn't separate
as much and is cream-colored.  Child has not gained weight in the last week.
 Birth weight 5 1/2 lbs as a 7 week preemie but now he is a whopping 13
pounder even with a poor latch.  He prefers to suck on nipple but with the
problems mom doesn't want to interfere too much.  Within 10 sec of latch he
ahs a 1:1 ratio of suck/swallows with gulping and overflow.  Finishes nursing
in 6 min.  LC in prior hospitalization instructed her to double-pump q 3 hr
for 10 min so she wouldn't lose her milk .  She produced up to 10 OZ (!!!) a
session and has 376
8-oz bags of EBM in her deep freezer!

Personally I don't think that the color of the milk is a problem, but she had
known about Lactnet and is interested in what you'all think.  I have
encouraged her to feed from one breast/feeding, pump for comfort only when
needed (she's had mastitis X3)  heat & massage any hard areas immediately.
 Any comments or suggestions?
