I hope no one ever is made to feel out of line for suggesting references
from the Bible or other religious books. The Old Testament (or Hebrew
Scriptures) and New Testament provide, at the very least, an account of the
history and culture of a group of people. By listing these passages, one
does not imply that someone else must believe that such writings are
divinely inspired.

Religion or spirituality is a often a cornerstone of a person's life, and
yet we sometimes ignore this part of people's lives as we teach, counsel,
etc. I often wish that I had a better understanding of *all* major
religions and their related teachings/readings so that I might better
understand how it relates to heath beliefs and health care. I don't think
that my job is to preach or convert, but rather, to help people mobilize
their own spiritual resources when they need to integrate their spiritual
realm with the physical and emotional realm of their lives.

Since Melisa has given some interesting ideas from a Christian perspective,
I'm wondering if someone else might have a non-Christian perspective that
would help all of us to better understand lactation issues (weaning, or
otherwise) in the context of one's spiritual belief system.
