Katherine,
I enjoyed your rundown on that figure, though I've heard it before. It is
interesting to note that lactation failure is pretty much unheard of in
the animal kingdom; only we humans seem to suffer from this plague.
Outside of the occasional hypoplastic breast and assorterd
thyroid/pituitary/hormone problems, we shouldn't have "failures", either.
Indeed, it is usually mismanagement that accounts for failure, and not
physiology! (In citing the animal kingdom, however, I must also
acknowledge that we have overcome the "survival of the fittest" with our
medical technology and so will have some legitimate problems to deal with)
