Hi All

I have permission to post from my client

I saw a primip to-day, with Areola odema (first time I have seen this) she received 1200mls of Syntocinon in labour.
Baby was born by NVD and weighed 7lb.
I did try reverse pressure softening ( Thankyou Jean), but the odema came back so fast that the nipples were flat and mother was getting stressed and baby very sleepy. (has Jaundice)
we wmade several attempts but was unsucessfull at latching the baby to the breast , so I introduced a nipple shield and a supplementer to give the ebm. and even then the nipples didnt change shape. she is pumping 3 hrly and managing 20mls at 72 hours postpartum. she is cup feeding and using a supplementer at the breast to give the ebm.

So my questions wiseones
How long could the odema last.? and is there any thing else I could / should be doing?

Sincerely

June Nicholls
