There seems to be an idea that the mother who has to return to work should begin separation early and increase it more and more to make the transition easier for the baby. But I tell mothers, "If your husband had to go away for a long time - perhaps several weeks - would you want him to begin leaving you every weekend so you could get accustomed to his absence? Or would you prefer to savor the precious time you have with him, so the good times you build together will carry you through during his absence?"
