Referral to a gastro is a good idea - quickly. Harvey's suggestions
should be followed. This is also a situation in which, if mom seems
amenable, I would do my 'what would you think about going on a very
basic diet: cook up a big pot of rice, some turkey, bake some winter
squash" etc.

How is baby? happy? Is mom certain that she was 'off diary? Since
dairy (and corn and soy) is a hidden ingredient in so many foods, this
is typically a very difficult recommendation to follow if simply
eliminating dairy while continuing to eat a standard diet. Moms are
often suprised when I point out the diary in 'x' food that they thought
was dairy free.

One issue: if she goes to a very basic diet, and the culprit was a food
allergy/intolerance it's possible that it would heal quickly, not
leaving many clues for the gastro. Some may want to continue status quo
until they get answers, then make necessary adjustments.
