Last year I had a young mother whose baby was difficult to latch, very fussy
at the breast and close to developing a breast aversion. We were chatting in
between attempts to latch the baby and I discussed various strategies we could
try and said "you know, all this baby needs is to realize that the breast is
where the milk comes from (she had slow let down, tense first time mother). In
the olden days your sister/aunt/mother (whose milk supply was already in)
could have nursed the baby once or twice for you to kind've let the baby get
the idea but we may need to pump and use an sns over the breast."

She mentioned then, that her older sister was nursing a 10 months old and was
in the house upstairs. We discussed possible infection risks and she voiced a
desire to ask her sister to help out. So--sister nursed the baby for about
ten minutes. From then on baby latched and nursed great for mom. She told me
in a later follow up phone call that at first the baby would nurse from
either of them but after about a week baby refused the sister and would only
nurse from mom.

This is the only time I have ever seen this but it made me happy and sad at
the same time.
