I have a lady that is a 37 y.o. primagravida, family history of breast cancer (mother died at 54, maternal aunt at 56). She has been getting ultrasounds done once/year (x3 yrs) and now mammograms once/year (x2 yrs) for early detection. As she is now pregnant and due for her yearly mammogram, we are curious about the validity of the U/S results during pregnancy and lactation. She has had massive breast changes (from B cup to a D cup and is at 16 weeks). They are firm and feel uniform, no lumpiness detected. She is not comfortable with ultra sound during her pregnancy and wants to know as well will the U/S on her breasts be localized.

We are weighing risks and benefits here. If not appropriate now, when would be a good time to have the tests done?

thank you for any and all replies.

Patricia
