I too would be very interested in any scholarly publications that discuss
how wet nursing/ cross nursing is accepted outside of the West.
I would like to add another anecdote similar to Phyllis'
I know an adoptive mum, never previously breastfed, whose son adopted at 5
months took to breastfeeding immediate post-placement. The mum wanted
reassurance that her son was suckling correctly and on one occasion got her
sister ot breastfeed him briefly to see whether it felt right to her (it
did). I admit to wishing when my daughter finally started breastfeeding (at
3.5 years and 3 months post placement) that I could 'borrow' a breastfeeding
toddler to help me to remember what breastfeeding felt like.
