Hello all. I am so glad to be back after my (horribly) lengthy hiatus.
Got a semi-bf related query from a mom who called. She is breastfeeding a 4
year old a couple of times a day/night, and is pregnant (not sure on
conception date, but had her last menstrual period 8 wks ago.) She has
miscarried once before. Last night she began to experience bleeding after bf
her daughter, which has continued at about the same rate--she says much
heavier than spotting, red, some clots. She is not interested in reducing her
daughter's nursing at all--apparently her daughter has recently been through
some serious trauma--and wants to know what the likelihood of miscarrying is.
I got the idea this pregnancy was less than a blessing, in her mind. I told
her, of course, that I was not a medical professional. She stated that she
had been unable to get a hold of her regular practitioner this weekend, and
that the ER in our town refused to discuss the issue at all.
I know this is more a ob/gyn question than bf...can anyone e-mail me privately
if they have info to share on how often this type of fairly heavy bleeding
occurs, with miscarriage NOT following?
Thanks in advance,
Joy Berry-Parks
