As of July 1, 1997, fourteen states in the US have enacted breastfeeding
legislation:  Florida, Delaware, Illinois, Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New
Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.  Also,
the city of Philadelphia passed an ordinance protecting the right of a mother
to breastfeed her baby within any public accomodation where she would
otherwise be authorized to be (irrespective of whether or not the nipple is
covered during or incidental to breastfeeding!)
  Florida and Texas have both developed breastfeeding support policies for
*state* employees (Florida Statutes, section 383.018; Texas Health and Safety
Code, sections 165.031-033 (1995)  Texas became the first sate in the nation
to provide an incentive to the private sector to encourage women to continue
breastfeeding when they return to work. (Texas Health and Safety Code, section
165.003 (1995)
