Hi Lactnetters,
The mother and baby I spoke of in the last journal who was given the
vaccine, was not breastfeeding, the mother was vientnameze, and will
breastfeed only fron day 5 onwards.
The other case of ckicken pox, was an antinatal mother to be had chicken
pox at 27 weeks. The neonate was born full term with congenital chicken
pox. the baby was very sick for 3 days, chest resession, and was sick,
tube fed, blood gasses and bloods taken etc., but when day three came
the baby was well, and mother and baby went home on day five, followup
by peadiatrcian and GP, (fortunately GP was one of our Obstetric
Registrars, we trained him well), and was able to say what was expected
of him, and from myself as the Infection Control Officer. The mother and
baby have done well in both cases.
