Dear Friends,
I'm sitting in front of the computer as well...but I had a nice little
Christmas present yesterday. I had been working earlier in the week with a
third time mother, first time breastfeeding mother. This baby was a late
surprise and she deceided to try nursing this little guy. Well, this little
guy was soooo sleepy, loooow (14) blood sugar and flat nipples to boot. It
was a long day. She went home with a pump and was going to bottle feed this
little guy with her milk or formula. I couldn't talk her into anything
else. She called the next day, extremely engorged, miserable and unable to
get a drop out with the pump. Gave her suggestions and offered to help, she
was too busy. She calls Christmas Eve, desperate, in a lot of pain and
ready to give up. She wanted to dry up, but was able to convince her to
come by and we could try the hospital pump. So Christmas Eve night she
arrives with hungry baby and her two teenage daughters. After a few minutes
of warm paks, gentle massage the little guy just latched on like he was
laughing at us all. He relaxed and fed for an hour. The mother blissfully
rocking him, the teenage daughters, sucking on candy canes, rubbing moms
shoulders, and saying cool mom, this is so cool. It was a beautiful
picture. I went home took my boys to Mass. I'm glad I have the opportunity
to witness life as it's suppose to be.

Merry Christmas.
