Jan--amen. No disagreement from me on whether LLL's "battle tactics" have made a
significant impact on the movement towards a bf norm. I was mostly responding to
the notion that because LLL opts NOT to go gungho on political activism that
they are somehow remiss in their duties. Personally, I think the one-on-one
approach is a very effective way of changing things. It is not as showy and
obvious as other approaches, but it runs less risk of alienating folks by being
labeled fanatical, radical, etc.

Thanks for setting the record straight--I think we are saying the same thing,
but you picked up on my peculiar way of saying it!!!

I suspect if anybody had told LLL's 7 founders 30++ years ago what the
organization would be today, they would have had a good laugh and then called
for psychiatric help!!

Just out of curiousity, where do such groups as Nursing Mothers of Australia and
other lay breastfeeding counselling organizations stand on the political
activism front? Also, do these other groups encompass parenting philosophy as
well?

One last point about LLL and LLL Leaders. We are all VOLUNTEERS with children
and limited time. Activism requires a lot of time and energy and I suspect that
most LLL Leaders would not have time to handle all they do mother-to-mother AND
take on lobbying, etc.
