Since my previous post appeared last week and some of you may be reading the archives weekly and missed it, I ask again: is there any other way to assess the nutritional status of a child besides weighing and measuring it and examining it for clinical signs of illness and/or micronutrient deficiency?

Just because I have never heard of it, and there is nothing on the WHO website's nutrition section, doesn't mean there isn't some technique I don't know about.

I'm preparing to discuss this with a pediatrician who believes the diagnosis can be made by diet history alonw, more specifically, that if the mother reports that the child is six months old or more and exclusively breastfed, the child is by definition malnourished. So I need to know if there is something I have missed.
