Hi All,
Can you tell me the pros and cons of cutting the thin silicone (Medela)
nipples shields in order to wean a baby off the shield?

Mom of twins wants to "lose" the shields - babies are on identical schedule
so nursing one at a time to focus on the practice of BF w/o the shield is
out, and babies are very much in synch with one another and when one has a
"glitch" in the nursing session, so does the other, so working on getting
rid of the shield while BF both at the same time is out.
One baby does BF w/o the shield OK, the other does not (but is getting s l
o w l y better). The baby who is not BF w/o the shield well, also has an
inelastic frenulum, which I (and two other LCs) agree should be clipped to
allow proper tongue movement, but mom says that now baby can put tongue on
roof of mouth and he stuck his tongue way out this morning, so she thinks he
is growing into it (the tongue). I am not convinced and asked her to please
keep clipping in mind as it might make weaning from the shield a heck of a
lot easier.

Comments please! Please e-mail privately as I am still no-mail
