Because:  the only significant finding was that her areolar skin was very
dry and thin, almost tissue-paper like.  Vaseline is a good emollient
that would provide a protective moisture barrier without exacerbating an
existing bacterial or yeast infection (if there was one).  It is also
unlikely to cause an allergic response.
