Dear Denise,
Your fussy newborn sounds like my own 3rd baby Patrick (10+ pounds, very
quick labor, no 2nd stage) He was very fussy unless being held upright.
He would not nurse at all though he sucked his hand and rooted alot.
I tries everything.  On day three my doc suggested that it might be an
ear fluid problem since he was born so fast and there was mec too.
It was also harvest time on the Palouse which plugs up the best of us.
My doc said to try a small dose of decongestant and see if that helped.
It worked like a charm and I didn't have to start pumping and destroy
my nipples.
