I tell the moms if they MUST use a pacifier that they can do so when the cord
falls off - time for a party!  Can give the baby his first tub bath, use a
pacifier, even give a bottle if they absolutely have to.  There's nothing
magic about the cord falling off, except that it generally takes the 10 days
to 2 weeks, and buys us a bit of time, and gives them a specific marker of
time for their baby books.  I only offer this info if asked....
