The Orange County Breastfeeding Coalition in conjunction with the Orange
County .Health Care Agency will sponsor a conference entitled,  "Blueprint
For Breastfeeding Success"  on

Monday, October 28, 2002
8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Registration begins at 8:00am

Registration fees
Includes continental breakfast and lunch
Early Bird: $40.00 (postmarked before October 14th)
Advance Registration: $50.00 (after October 14th)
At the Door: $50.00 (meal subject to availability)
OCBFC  or  CDA-OD members: $35.00
Discount available for early registration of 5 or more from same agency (call
for details).
Parking: $5.00 (not included, pay at location)

Program Description
This seminar will present a blueprint for providing optimal support to the
breastfeeding mother through understanding of her infant's unique
capabilities (whether term or almost term), and through the establishment of
practices that utilize collaboration within  her healthcare and community
systems.

Objectives
Following the presentations, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the plan for families who are returning home with a slightly early
baby.
2. Discuss the importance of creating a family-centered,  baby-friendly
philosophy of care in today's healthcare environment.
3. Differentiate between real and perceived insufficient milk syndrome.
4. Identify at least 3 infant behaviors that affect breastfeeding success.
5. Identify 3 benefits of maintaining direct, continuous contact between
mother and infant for at least 1 hour after birth.

Target Audience
Physicians, Registered Nurses, Health Educators, Lactation Consultants,
Occupational and Physical Therapists, Registered Dieticians and
Nutritionists, La Leche League Leaders, and others interested in supporting
families in the initiation of breastfeeding.

Speakers
Molly Pessl , BSN, IBCLC from the Family Maternity Center's Professional
Education Program at Evergreen Hospital, the first Baby Friendly hospital in
the USA.
Lisa Marasco, MA, IBCLC  owns and operates Expressly Yours Lactation
Services, a private practice in Santa Maria.
Christine Betzold, MSN, NP, IBCLC  from  Newport Family Medicine. She has
distinguished herself by achieving the second highest score in the IBCLC exam
world-wide in 2001.
Margie Deutsch-Lash MSEd, IBCLC  owns a private lactation practice in Irvine.
She is past president of the OCBFC.
