Loretta, I recommend asking The Infant Risk Center.
I wonder if this woman, like so many others, is magnesium deficient, which
can manifest in high blood pressure. Rowena, Texas

Subject: Re: Metoprolol

I have 2 pregnant women asking about the use of Metoprolol (one for
long term blood pressure problems and the other for tachycardia).
Both are due next week.
Blood pressure mom has been on this drug for past 2 yrs. The other
mom has been on it short term and hopes to come off it soon.

The question is 2012 Hale lists it as L3 and says, "Although these
levels are probably too low to be clinically relevant, clinicians
should use Metoprolol under close supervision."

Pediatric concerns: "None reported in several studies, but close
observation for hypotension, weakness, bradycardia is advised."

Are these pediatric concerns one would just "watch" baby for or is
blood work advised, etc. Any suggestions.

Thank you, Loretta Haycook, RN, IBCLC
