I think the main problem is that IBLCE is a certifying board, not a 
licensing agency like states Board of Nursing (or whatever you have in other 
countries).  We, unfortunately, are comparing apples and oranges when we 
cite CNMs, PTs etc. who are licensed, altho I do like some of their wording. 
It's a conundrum (riddle)  :-(

ILCA is a "join if you want" organization, not mandatory.  So it is hard to 
"make" people follow ILCA's SoP.

Where is this leading??? Formal study and licensing? or do we want something 
else?
Medicine started out like LCs.  A "doctor" taught another apprentice and 
then he called himself a dr.  Then formal ed was required, then licensing.

We are sort of on a path here, whether we like  it or not :-(  BTW, I don't 
think the path needs to be via medical or nursing school.  PT's don't have 
to go that route.  In the US, unfortunately,  CNMs go thru the nursing 
school  route, elsewhere in the world CNM is a route of it's own (Yeah)  All 
of this requires deep investigation, thought and planning.  It is sort of 
exciting to imagine where we are going.  We want recognition and credibility 
as a profession.  What's the cost?
