jaundiced
babies go back to the breast without a lot of trouble, also. >>

One of the things Katharine mentioned in her post was that the babies had
been bf for 2 to 3 days before they were taken off the br and put on bottles.
My question is, if babies are bf WELL before they start getting bottles, it
may not be amnesia, but it may be an ability to make the transition easily.
If a baby is not bf well, or gets a lot of bottles before he has had an
opportunity to learn how to bf, then it is a different story. Sort of like
the boys that are circumcised before they are bf well -- it then takes twice
as long (or longer) to get them on the br, than a baby who is bf well from
the get go, and then goes for the circ, comes back and latches back on to the
br because he KNOWS that's where comfort & the good stuff come from. The
baby who isn't nursing well before the circ doesn't know that yet...

So, how much of it is "amnesia" r/t higher bili, and how much of it is
ability to transition easily because the bf technique has already been
learned?

Both my daughters latched on and bf immediately; had bottles during the early
pp period (boy, what I didn't know then!!), and had no difficulty with
transitioning back & forth. My Timothy? Hoo boy, different story. If he
had had bottles, he never would have bf. We needed to supplement (long
story), so did it with syringes, a jerry-rigged feeding tube at the br once
he figured out how to latch on (SNS's weren't in yet back then), etc. etc.
