Heather,
>I think I've said before, we don't even use the term here....we just say

>spit-up is called 'possett'. I think that's a nice cosy sounding word!

The only time I've known it suggested, let alone diagnosed is when a
baby has projectile vomiting and is not gaining weight adequately and so
has been investigated for/suspected of pyloric stenosis. The very few
cases I know of were in the most severe range. My own child was
diagnosed after *I* suspected it from reading Lactnet and approached a
Paediatrician I know for an opinion. He agreed with me, but supported my
decision to avoid drugs, since it is very mild.

Or regularly go on the internet, which is becoming increasingly common.
I don't know of any British GPs on Lactnet, however.

I think there are occasions where a diagnosis of GER would be
considerably better than "he's allergic to your milk, put him on soy
formula" (I'm sorry Heather, but there is a GP in this town who
frequently "diagnoses" this).
