I wonder what type of pump this mother was using. Here in Israel, the most
commonly available "breast pump", is a inverted nebulizer in which the motor
was switched to pull rather than push. These are easily available for
lending, free of charge, from a large volunteer organization that lends
medical equipment, and are much too commonly used. I have seen quite a lot
of damage and pain caused by these, while the mother innocently thinks she
is pumping with a quality "electric breast pump".
