christine,
i'm with you. i think baby needs to breastfeed, hungry or comfort, i'm not
sure. i always just breastfed mine when they indicated (cued) they wanted
to. sometimes they spit up, so what? unless baby is acting like reflux and
feeling very bad w/ spit ups, i'd ignore this. your suggestion is a good one
to keep baby on same breast to offer a less full/higher fat milk breast. she
could offer a finger to suck or try the swish/swaddle/shhhh things that have
been discussed, but my motto with my babies always was (and usually worked):
"When in doubt, breastfeed."
