In her case she probably did not get great follow-up after she received
the shields and didn't know her milk supply was dropping. If the baby was
not latching well, even with the shields, after 12 weeks her supply would
drop. I would try to find out what kind of follow-up care she received.
Shields are a tool and like all tools they can be used well or misused.
At 12 weeks, she might be interested in pumping like crazy to continue
with some full or partial breastfeeding.
