>>>>>>>>Why would this mom have no problems, and so many others who have
dreamt about breastfeeding all their lives have terrible latch problems and
supply problems after just one bottle?
Are the other moms too over-motivated therefore projecting this to baby?
Help me on this one!! So much for all my theories!! >>>>>>>>>>>

I think sometimes that the rules get in the way. Moms have a lot of
information but I do not think they relax, nor do the people around them
either in hospital or home. Having never read a bf book until 6 months pp,
I went into motherhood with these familial lessons on breastfeeding:

1. Mom and baby do not get separated (or leave the house) until baby nurses,
which might not be for several days.
2. Don't force feed.
3. Shoot anyone who upsets either the mom or the baby.

When my baby was a couple of months old we were with friends who has a two
week old FF baby and the mom was sitting there leaking like crazy. I teased
her into putting her baby to breast and he latched immediately. With a
family full of babies that go to breast "sometime" during the first week and
having seen many babies go eagerly to breast after being ff for days or even
weeks (joyfully saw one of those last week), I think, Esther, that you've
hit at least one of the nails on the head.

The trouble these days is that you don't know which baby is having trouble
or which one is a baby that is just fine hanging out for a few days just
because he's not ready to eat/nurse. With early hospital discharges, I think
that panic comes into play if the baby hasn't nursed in hours, much less
days and how could the mother not feel the pressure and the baby not catch
on to the tension.
