Prolacta has been in existence for over 8 years. It is the only for-profit milk bank. They have excellent advisors and quality control, but their marketing practices have been questionable and prices 10X that of the non-profit milks. The current study shows either:
1. human milk and human milk fortifier reduces NEC (but no other bad outcomes)
2. mother's own milk (70-82% of both groups' intake) reduces NEC
We may be using the fortifier shortly. It is a liquid (which will dilute mothers' own milk) and very expensive. I am still waiting for a powdered fortifier made from human milk. Partnering with Abbot makes this more likely.
