intelligent and supposedly canny people in health care, who just don't see
what's hitting them.  You've described how opinion leaders are targeted,
analysed and lulled, and of course busy, trusting, caring people working at
the coalface are also very vulnerable to skilfully targeted approaches.

I should add that I think there are ethical companies with ethical products,
marketed in ethical ways. The salespeople I respected most were the ones
who were honest, who took their customers' side (as in, the rep and the
customer against the corporate Goliath) and who kept their integrity. They
may not have made the "Top Ten" every year, but over time, earned (not
manipulated) their customers' loyalty. It probably helps to set an ethical
culture if a company pays the rep a livable salary so that they are not
'tempted to steal' in order to pay their bills:-) But not to feed greed by
paying based on sleaze tactics, either. And I won't even go down the CEO
pay route:-)

Warmly,

Anna
