I doubt any of us routinely considers this in history taking. The writers
quoted above were exceptionally diplomatic when there was a plausible
reason to bring it up.

I believe it was included in Dr. Bradley's book that this was one good
way of prenatal nipple preparation, if it was acceptable to the couple.

It would be interesting to know if any previous study on prenatal
preparation of nipples or lack of "formal" (patient administered) nipple
preparation and subsequent incidence of "sore" nipples ever included this
variable (and any of its variations) in its research. Certainly would
seem to have potential to skew any results, wouldn't it?
