Just had a baby in who was identified with a posterior T-T at 4 weeks of age and released. NO suck, high narrow palate. Mom with NO milk (not pumping). On a suck-organization score - scores a 2 out of 10 with poor seal, retracting tongue, etc. Parents were using a Breastflow bottle with baby on his back! All the baby had to do was chomp to get milk out from the bottle. Same scenario with Avents and Medela regular bottles, etc. On a Haberman (again baby was on his back), baby took forever. I have got mom on a regimen of breast snacks (baby will latch and get a teaspoon of milk). Baby taking milk from Haberman on the smallest line (vacuum only) and in a flexed posture lying on his side on mom's chest with bottle next to mom's nipple. Suck improved and baby latched back to mom with better suck. I have Calmas and what I like them for is baby's with poor central grooving who let the bottle teat or mom's nipple fall out of the mouth. They go back to the breast. But the jury's still out for me. I gave one today to another mom who has a special feeder who has low supply and a baby that had a posterior t-t release. She is going to try both bottles and see which one allows baby to go back to breast with no change in or better suck (her baby scores a 3 out of 10 on suck strength and 7 out of 10 on suck-competence). After giving the baby some with the Calma, baby went to the breast and mom reported a stronger suck. We shall see.

I've used the Breast Flow nipple sometimes for babies who needed to

learn to increase their suction. It is a relatively 'difficult' bottle,

and many babies with feeding difficulties can't get milk from it. Using

it as a stepping stone to breastfeeding has worked for several kids with

significant feeding problems in my practice.

The name, of course, got my attention at Target and it appears to have a similar design of flow control as the Calma, but it's actually very soft and the nipple part is shorter. Has anyone seen it in action?
