With my own babies I experienced the nipple pain described but it was more
like the first 7 seconds, every time, disappearing after the first weeks. I
find this with many moms and with each it seems to last about 7 seconds. I
haven't seen a pattern re: nipple type or latch. But it is a throbbing pain,
not too bad. I tell them to hang in there for about 7 seconds and if it
gradually diminishes they then say there is no other pain; usually the latch
seems fine. I heard once somewhere that this may be from ductal spasms
associated with let down. I wish someone would discover the reason for this
mystery.
