This AP article caught my attention yesterday and made me wonder how the breastfeeding world could capitalize on it a bit. Basically, the pharmaceutical industry announced new guidelines for marketing meds to patients in the US. The biggie that grabbed me was this..."Ads should be designed to achieve balanced presentation of both benefits and the risks associated with the medicine, " and "Ads that mention a product by name should clearly state the health conditions for which the medicine is approved and the risks associated with the drug."

I'm not a legal expert, but I wonder why the word "formula" can't be subbed for "medicine" and why the pharmaceutical companies shouldn't have to state the risks associated with its use.

Any musings?

Warmly,
Rebecca DeYoung Daniels, MBA, RD, LD, IBCLC, RLC & MOM to 5
