Hi all,
I also have had giardia. It was not to bad in the first stages, (of
course, I really didn't even know that I had it at that point). It would
cycle, and there were quite long intervals when I felt quite well. But as
the condition progressed, I became quite ill, I was continually nauseated,
and started to loose weight. I am pretty sure that this condition was not
going to clear up on it's own, and it was difficult to function normally in
my daily life. So perhaps the probability of the mother ending up weaning
because of her illness is real, and if she cannot recieve a medication
compatible with breastfeeding, she could take some time to pump and
stockpile enough milk to see her through the course of Flagyl. Only other
warning would be, this was the only time in my life that I had a yeast
infection. I think that Flagyl is potent medicine, but then giardia is a
tough parasite as well.
