We've had several mom's with deep breast pain, burning hurting for hours even
after feeds. If this is only a positioning problem, why would they continue
to have this same pain when pumping with a Cl----s pump? We've known mom's
to pump the painful breast for day's with no change then get her OB to
prescribe diflucan and pain is gone.

We (my partner and myself) often see the blancing of the nipples with the
deep breast pain. Could it be that the tissue is so affected by the yeast
that the circulation is not sufficient? I know we've seen the nipple tissue
become so fragile with yeast that it just splits open at the base of the
nipple as if someone sliced it open.

For a better understanding of yeast and where it can grow and why it becomes
a problem, read Dr. William Crook's book, THE YEAST CONNECTION. I agree with
Dr. Newman, yeast is probably over diagnosed, but I've seen more resolution
to sore nipples and deep breast pain by treating with Diflucan, than I have
seen problems continue (I can't think of one such case in our practice that
has not been resolved by treating for yeast).
