I worked with an infant who ended up being diagnosed with a metabolic
syndrome after many weeks of not gaining no matter what or how much she was
fed. There are a couple of rare metabolic syndromes out there. I have found
in the two cases of rare metabolic syndromes that I have encountered that
there was someone else in the family at some point who also had it. Knowing
the extended family medical history can be helpful. Getting a specialized
work up may be essential.
