In his pre-reading days, my son and I played with circle-the-picture books.  One memorable page was designed to teach the letter Q.  Scott dutifully circled Quilt and Quarter but not the picture of the woman wearing a crown.  When I asked him why he hadn't circled that one, he said, "because Princess doesn't begin with a Q."  I learned a lot about test design and test-taking in that moment.
