I thought it was about time to introduce myself. I have been
"listening" to Lactnet and enjoying the wealth of information shared for
a while now. I am Becket Miller. I have been a LLL leader for 14 yrs.
I went back to school for my BSN. Because I already had a degree in
Biology I had most of the prerequisites, but it still took me 4 yrs,
going part time, to complete the program. I became IBCLC in 1994. I
have been working part time at a local hospital as an LC for 2 yr. Our
hospital got LC's (2 of us) in through the back door: I am hired by the
education dept. Forward progress it slow, but at least we are there.

The impetus for my finally becoming visible is a LLL phone call
question. I need help. A mother of an 8 mo. old girl (14#4, healthy)
has been told by ped to wean for 3 wks to R/O the possibility that the
just-discovered breast lump in the infant is a breast bud,
estrogen-sensitive tissue. The mother describes the lump as being just
above the nipple, about 1", more cylindrical than round, mobile, and
well defined. The baby is on solids and takes a bottle. The mom has
quit nursing today but doesn't want to. (Father wants to follow MD
instructions.) I gave her 3 names of pump rental locations. MD
considers weaning the least interventionist, noninvasive treatment. I
have suggested: discuss with MD mothers feeling about what is
interventionist, what are other options, second opinion, and some other
things (this note is too long already). What have other moms done in
this situation? Would a sonogram give helpful information in
distinguishing a bud from CA? Why would this occur suddenly? I don't
know yet if mom is on meds. I didn't see references other than those for
neonatal period.

Thank you for having a place where these questions can be asked.

(Denise, I am finally here. Thanks for your help.)
